New York-based architectural writer, Fred Bernstein. A World Trade Center Memorial in New York Harbor. Proposal for a permanent and stirring World Trade Center Memorial. It may be years before a decision is made about the World Trade Center site. But there's a way to build a permanent, stirring memorial right now.

Letter to Time Out New York
Thank you for the article on Fred Bernstein's Twin Towers memorial idea ["Water mark," Around Town, TONY 338]. The memorial he proposes -- twin piers the length and width of the Twin Towers -- is not only appropriate in conveying the loss, but also serves to uplift our spirits. This plan is so thoughful in every aspect that many of us will be hard-pressed to see a better one.
